I attempted to calculate the vibrational frequencies of my titanium complex in its T₁ (triplet) state, but I consistently encounter the following Q-Chem fatal error:

“Fatal error occurred in module progman/main.C, line 178: Problem running Q-Chem: std::bad_alloc”

How can I resolve this issue?

This calculation is probably running out of memory. Since your MEM_TOTAL is already set quite high, you can either increase the number of segments or reduce the number of threads, since the memory requirement scales per thread. (As a side note, I don’t think MEM_STATIC should be required although I also doubt that’s the source of the problem.)

Another possibility could be that if your cluster does not have 10TB memory (mem_total = 10000000 means 10000000 MB), when Q-Chem tried to allocate memory more than what is physically available, the error message could be std::bad_alloc.

You can try the job again with mem_total is what is available and remove “cpscf_nseg 8” so that Q-Chem will adjust the number of segments itself according to the available memory.
